Designed and Etched by Felix O.C. Darley for the Members of the American Art-Union. One of the earliest examples of American fiction and still widely enjoyed today, the Legend of Sleepy Hollow was written by Washington Irving while he was staying in England. It tells the tale of Ichabod Crane, a Connecticut schoolmaster, who competes with the Brom Bones for the affections of the local beauty, Katrina von Tassel. He is pursued by the Headless Horsemen one evening and subsequently - mysteriously - disappears. An excellent choice for lovers of ghost stories.

I use the British Library often for research, but I LOVE adopting books as gifts for people. My most recent adoption was in honor of my English professor in college. I am not just a literary scholar because of her influence--I am also a better human being.

My daughter and I both love the ambiance of the British Library and feel proud to be Readers. Supporting the Adopt a Book scheme is the least I can do.
