One of Frances Hodgson Burnett’s most popular novels, The Secret Garden tells the story of Mary Lennox, a spoiled and lonely child who is sent to live with her uncle in Yorkshire after her parents' death. She discovers, with the help of her maid, a secret garden on her uncle's estate. The garden and the unexpected friendships she forms along the way changes her life and the lives of those around her.

I use the British Library often for research, but I LOVE adopting books as gifts for people. My most recent adoption was in honor of my English professor in college. I am not just a literary scholar because of her influence--I am also a better human being.

My daughter and I both love the ambiance of the British Library and feel proud to be Readers. Supporting the Adopt a Book scheme is the least I can do.
