Hardy was already a successful writer when his sixth novel, The Return of the Native, was published in 1878. Set in the fictitious Egdon Heath, a tragic tale of the forces between nature and society is played out by Eustacia Vye, Diggory Venn, Clym Yeobright and the community. A perfect adoption for devout Hardy fans.

I use the British Library often for research, but I LOVE adopting books as gifts for people. My most recent adoption was in honor of my English professor in college. I am not just a literary scholar because of her influence--I am also a better human being.
