The Modern Bicycle (1877)

by Charles Spencer Return to list Adopt this book

In this charming, illustrated guide Charles Spencer gives practical advice for long distance cyclists using modern bicycles (in 1877 these had a large fore wheel and smaller hind wheel). Also included is a road guide for England and Wales and a detailed account of Spencer's 800 mile cycle with friends from London to John O'Groats in 1873. A perfect adoption for avid cyclists.

I use the British Library often for research, but I LOVE adopting books as gifts for people. My most recent adoption was in honor of my English professor in college. I am not just a literary scholar because of her influence--I am also a better human being.

My daughter and I both love the ambiance of the British Library and feel proud to be Readers. Supporting the Adopt a Book scheme is the least I can do.
