Lady Chatterley’s Lover (1938)

by D.H. Lawrence Return to list Adopt this book

(New Valentine's title) This novel portraying the passionate affair between a married upper class woman and a working class man created quite a stir with its explicit prose and use of then un-printable words. First published privately in Florence, Lady Chatterley’s Lover, in its unexpurgated version, could not be openly printed in the United Kingdom until 1960.

I use the British Library often for research, but I LOVE adopting books as gifts for people. My most recent adoption was in honor of my English professor in college. I am not just a literary scholar because of her influence--I am also a better human being.

My daughter and I both love the ambiance of the British Library and feel proud to be Readers. Supporting the Adopt a Book scheme is the least I can do.
