Beatrix Potter wrote this tale, based on a real life story of a tailor in Gloucester, as a Christmas gift for the daughter of her former governess. Too tired and ill to finish the Mayor's outfit for his wedding on Christmas morning, the tailor finds a little help from some grateful mice.
