The Victorian Christmas Book (1988)

by Antony and Peter Miall Return to list Adopt this book

"At no time in the year can we see the Victorians being so utterly 'Victorian' as they were at Christmas," reads the introduction to this festive book. Included are chapters on presents with adverts from Victorian-time newspapers and magazines, drawings of decorations, examples of greeting cards and popular Christmas recipes. A perfect gift for those interested in history.

I use the British Library often for research, but I LOVE adopting books as gifts for people. My most recent adoption was in honor of my English professor in college. I am not just a literary scholar because of her influence--I am also a better human being.

My daughter and I both love the ambiance of the British Library and feel proud to be Readers. Supporting the Adopt a Book scheme is the least I can do.
