Black Beauty has long been a favourite tale. It was written by English novelist Anna Sewell in 1877 in the last years of her lifewhen she was an invalid and could move around only with the help of her horse. The novel became an instant bestseller, telling the story of one horse's life and dealing with themes of kindness and respect. This is a perfect book adoption for horse lovers everywhere.

I use the British Library often for research, but I LOVE adopting books as gifts for people. My most recent adoption was in honor of my English professor in college. I am not just a literary scholar because of her influence--I am also a better human being.
