Annuals and story papers date from the mid-19th century and remain highly collectible items. Beautifully illustrated with attractive covers, often by famous artists, the books featured stories by writers of the day and were especially popular as gifts. This is a 1917 edition of the British Girl's Annual.

I use the British Library often for research, but I LOVE adopting books as gifts for people. My most recent adoption was in honor of my English professor in college. I am not just a literary scholar because of her influence--I am also a better human being.
