by Oscar Wilde Illustrated by Walter Crane and Jacomb Hood Return to list Adopt this book

The Prince and Other Tales was Oscar Wilde's first collection of short stories. He insisted that it was written "not for children but for childlike people from eighteen to eighty." Includes The Nightingale and the Rose, The Selfish Giant, The Devoted Friend, and The Remarkable Rocket. A perfect adoption for Wilde fans.

I use the British Library often for research, but I LOVE adopting books as gifts for people. My most recent adoption was in honor of my English professor in college. I am not just a literary scholar because of her influence--I am also a better human being.

My daughter and I both love the ambiance of the British Library and feel proud to be Readers. Supporting the Adopt a Book scheme is the least I can do.
