British Library Patron programme

Get closer and be inspired

As a Patron you enjoy special access to our collections through curated events, preview openings of our major exhibitions and other exclusive behind the scenes opportunities.

 Become a Patron

We hold the written memory of the UK and the world. Our collection contains 170 million items in almost every known language and across civilisations. Whatever your interest, you will be inspired and amazed by our collection. Along with every book published in the UK since the 18th century, our collection includes manuscripts of great works of literature and music, first editions, art, newspapers, personal letters, photographs, maps, stamps, oral histories, wildlife recordings and numerous other treasures.

By becoming a Patron, you join an extraordinary group of donors who share our passion for knowledge. Patrons help us to unlock treasures for all our visitors and researchers, providing inspiration to thousands of people who use our collections onsite and online everyday.

You'll benefit from exclusive insider access to our collection and curators, and your gift will open up access for everyone. As a Patron, enjoy an outstanding range of events from preview openings of exhibitions to behind the scenes opportunities, celebrating the richness of our collection and the expertise of our staff.

You can choose from three gift levels:

  • Patrons' Circle £1,500 - suggested annual donation of £1,250, cost of benefits £250
  • Curators' Circle £5,000 - suggested annual donation of £4,670, cost of benefits £330
  • Chairman's Circle £10,000 - suggested annual donation of £9,565, cost of benefits £435

As the Patrons’ membership includes a range of benefits part of your gift cannot be treated as a charitable donation. It is, therefore, not eligible for Gift Aid and cannot be paid via CAF or a charitable foundation. This amount is £250 for Patrons, £330 for the Curators' Circle and £435 for the Chairman’s Circle. These benefits can be purchased separately, please contact us for further information. The remainder of your gift is treated as a voluntary donation, which can be paid via CAF or a charitable foundation.

Please contact Harriet James by telephone on +44 (0)20 7412 7141 or email Harriet.James@bl.uk if you would like more information about our Patrons’ Programme and the benefits available.
