Forthcoming Patrons' event

Intelligence Squared Bloomsbury Book Club with Kate Summerscale
Thursday, 6 September
6pm for 6.30pm

Bloomsbury Publishing has invited British Library Patrons to the heart of literary London for its new series of author events, hosted at its magnificent offices in Georgian Bedford Square.

Join Kate Summerscale and her editor Alexandra Pringle for an intimate discussion about the true story of the scandalous divorce trial that rocked Victorian England. As in her award-winning and bestselling The Suspicions of Mr Whicher, Kate’s new book Mrs Robinson’s Disgrace recreates the Victorian world, chronicling in exquisite and compelling detail the life of Isabella Robinson, whose husband divorced her on the grounds of adultery after discovering the passionate contents of her private diary.

Tickets are free for British Library Patrons. Join the Patrons' Programme.

Maps provide a fascinating insight into our history, and I marvel at the skill of the early mapmakers. My own collection is constantly on view at home, and they always provide a focus for discussions. I am very grateful to the British Library for looking after our heritage, in the form of old maps.

The Library's ethos, principles and ambitions strike a chord with me; the services on offer are the practical demonstration of what the place is about.
