Major gifts

The British Library has benefited from a number of major gifts over the years, each of which has had a lasting impact.

From support of our inspirational exhibitions; funding of major digitisation projects to provide access to manuscripts and treasures; to the creation of world-class facilities and the purchase of major heritage items; individual philanthropy has brought our collections to life for researchers and scholars - as well as the wider public - across the world.

Looking ahead - future opportunities

Over the next few years, we will be fundraising for a number of creative and challenging exhibitions, together with the biggest historic maps project that we have undertaken, and developing a major online learning tool to bring English Literature to life.

Our supporters share our vision for bringing the world's knowledge to life. If you share this passion, please get in touch to discuss how your gift could transform the British Library.
