    • No one who loves literature as I do could fail to be a friend of the Library, and I count it a privilege to be able to contribute in a small way to the preservation of human genius for all humankind.

    • I think the British Library is a fabulous institution. I value the ability to give a useful Christmas gift that pleases my well-read mother as much as me.

    • I'm a passionate contemporary embroiderer. The chance to adopt a book on needlework was far too good to pass by for a passionate needle woman and book lover. Thank you.

    • Having formerly served as a curator at the British Library, I know the value of public support for its work in caring for our collective memory. It is a privilege to honour the memory of loved ones, who also appreciated the cultural value of books, by contributing to the Adopt a Book programme.

    • I've adopted a book in memory of my wonderful nephew. He was passionate about poetry and books and would have loved the British Library.

    • We had an excellent visit to the Library’s Boston Spa site and adopted “The sportsman's dictionary…” as a thank you gift. We chose this title because it might have been read by William Lockwood from Easingwold whose diary covering 1796 and 1797 was published by us.

    • Having just arrived in London from the United States, I came to the British Library hoping to learn more about British literature. Instead, I found an institution dedicated to education about every imaginable topic. Its vast resources for research, wonderful exhibits on display, and dedication to learning for all, from children to artists to entrepreneurs, contribute incredibly to the preservation and enhancement of our culture, and being a Young Patron lets me be a part of that mission.

    • Joining the Friends of the British Library is my way of supporting this great institution with a modest, regular subscription. There is a feeling that I really do 'belong' to the British Library!
