    • As a longstanding British Library reader, who has spent many summers working blissfully in the Rare Books reading room, concern about the latest austerity measures prompted me to become a Patron.

    • Our 1st proper meeting was at the British Library for the Ramayana: Love and Valour in India's Great Epic after knowing each other in Boston. He suggested the exhibition because he remembered my blog post ‘a Chinese in Bombay’ and he spotted the ‘Adopt a book’ counter, which we both considered a creative action for a good cause. As his birthday was coming up over a year later, during which we supported each other through very difficult parts of our lives, I knew ‘adopting a book’ would be an ideal gift for him. British Library made everything happened magically. Thank you.

    • The publication marked the opening of new homes, in Swanley Kent, for orphan boys. This rare publication was adopted in memory of Valerie Parker (pictured left), because of her lifelong connection with the County of Kent and her dedication to her profession as a social worker for children.

    • With a mother and sister who worked in the local public library, I grew up to regard the British Library as the library of all libraries. However I never thought it was a place for me until I came regularly to meetings in London. If I have some time to spare before my train from Kings Cross, I like to visit the illustrated manuscripts, or just admire the bindings of the stack of books rising up the centre.

    • I can’t encourage people enough to come to the Library right from the beginning when they first have that inkling of an idea, because the support and the help makes that initial journey so much quicker and so much more targeted and reliable. It saves a lot of time.

    • I discovered the Business & IP Centre when applying for a grant. The staff sat down with me and we looked through all the databases to find the information I was looking for. And my grant application proved successful – I just couldn't have done it by myself!
