Research

Web-based technologies have transformed our everyday lives. Now, thanks to continuing technological advancement, researchers across the world can share their knowledge and ideas with others, leading to previously unrealised benefits of community curation.

Our vision for research and learning

The British Library’s vision for the future is to expand the possibilities for research and learning to everyone. We can achieve this through the creative application of new digital technologies to transform the research environment, opening up new opportunities for researchers across the world.

Our supporters share our vision to achieve truly global access to our holdings. Together, we have been able to digitise elements of our heritage collections, and scholars and researchers have already benefitted.

Funding success brings Codex to the world

Thanks to the generosity of funders such as the AG Leventis Foundation and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, a major new international research tool has been created at www.codexsinaiticus.org.

Here our expert curators have digitally reunited the previously separated fragments of the Codex Sinaiticus, which contains the world’s oldest complete copy of the New Testament.

Without the support of donations this important resource would not have been possible. Please contact us to discuss how you may be able to support the Library today and expand the future of research.

We were taken aback by the volume of visitors to the Codex Sinaiticus website on the day it was launched. One million visitors tried to access the site, far exceeding our expectations. Since then, the feedback we have had has been overwhelmingly positive which is a tremendous endorsement of the project.
