To continue to be one of the greatest research libraries in the world, we need to care for our precious collections for future generations; bring our collections to life for learners of all ages, enabling them to add to their own knowledge and share it with others; and add to our collections by acquiring items of national heritage importance.

Your regular gift to the Future Fund will enable us to achieve these ambitious goals in four key areas:

Conservation

There are 150 million items in the British Library’s collections. Your gift will enable us to conserve items in most urgent need, safeguarding them for future generations of researchers to enjoy. Last year alone, we rebound 2,870 items, provided new binding for 32,680 items, effected minor repairs on 3,000 items and created protective boxes for 12,846 items.

Your annual gift of £100 will enable us to protect ten fragile volumes in custom-made protective boxes. Donate to conservation.

Acquisitions

Help us safeguard our national heritage and provide new research experiences by enabling us to acquire items for our collections. We don’t always know when items will become available – your gift will provide us with the flexibility to respond to urgent acquisition needs.

Learning

Help us bring our wonderful collections and engaging exhibitions to life for school students and lifelong learners alike. Your gift will enable us to run inspirational workshops for families, students, enabling them to delve deeper into our major exhibitions and relate the themes and content with their own everyday lives.

Your gift of £30 each month will enable us to provide a day of workshops for a visiting school group, bringing the treasures of the Library to life for the researchers of tomorrow. Donate to Learning.
